An AI-inspired dinner experiment.
This year, I decided to host what I’m calling The Chatty Thanksgiving — an AI/ChatGPT-inspired dinner experiment.
I started by creating a project called “Thanksgiving Dinner.” I gave it just a few instructions:
- We wanted to do something different — no turkey!
- One guest was vegan
- I asked for a menu, shopping list, recipes, etc.
Within minutes, it built a complete menu and plan:
The Menu
Main Dishes
- Braised long ribs with a maple-balsamic glaze
Sides
- Garlic mashed potatoes
- Roasted butternut squash with maple and butter glaze
- Glazed carrots with a touch of cinnamon and thyme
- Spinach and mixed-greens salad with walnuts and citrus dressing
Dessert
- Apple crisp with steel-cut oat topping and cinnamon-vanilla drizzle
⸻
The “Chatty” part came alive when things inevitably went sideways — I burned the ribs, forgot to buy oatmeal and was missing a few ingredients. I used my app to help me with a new sauce, an oatmeal “hack” with steel-cut oats, and endless substitutions. We improvised, adjusted, and somehow created the most flavorful, cozy dinner I’ve ever served.
It even planned what to make the day before and 45 minutes before guests arrived, so I could enjoy the evening instead of being stuck in the kitchen.
It was a beautiful, warm, non-traditional Thanksgiving — full of laughter, good food, lots of new flavours and a lot of gratitude. Creativity and technology can meet in the most unexpected ways.
No turkey. No chaos. Just connection, curiosity, and a dinner that felt completely alive.
Happy Thanksgiving from The Chatty Kitchen!
